Breeding heifers

At Elk Valley, we believe producing Bison that flourish on grass programs is key. Our females only see grain as weaned calves. After that they are turned out on grass in the spring and are on good forages for the rest of their lives. 

Here at Elk Valley, we breed approximately 100 - 150 replacement heifers each year. We use 50 ourselves and sell the others. We also take our very best to many shows and sales across Canada and have had a very good showing. 

We choose our bison replacements heiffers when they come off of grass. We start out with 600 heifers and dwindle it down to 150. Giving us the top 25% heiffer bison for sale. A top quality bull can improve your calf crop, but high quality females will have a more sustainable impact. 

Elk Valley boasts 5 different herds so if you are looking for some specific bison bulls for sale or have interest in bloodlines from one of our top herd sires we can accommodate you.
